It might be the later books in this series, when you are into the overall story and really hooked, that Old Man will really enjoy, but I suppose he should start with the first one - Roseanna. The later ones are perhaps more exciting, but of course it was written in the 60s. For Larsson type excitement though, Old Man should read Jo Nesbo (Norwegian, rather than Swedish); I've just finished The Leopard - wow what a tale!nomadtravellerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17714845635955522112noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4164975954177814825.post-5734985921753421872013-08-01T21:28:20.301-07:002013-08-01T21:28:20.301-07:00Well I am trying to catch up with your blogs so re...Well I am trying to catch up with your blogs so read all of this. I would love to belong to your book club. Give you a glass of port and let you sport. But I do appreciate your analysis and even though I don't care for detective stuff, I might try one of these and I will definitely add one to Old Man Watching's e-book. I download for our local library. Which do you suggest he try first? He enjoyed the Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. And that surprised me as it was a long book for him.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14684720888428863058noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4164975954177814825.post-91706638397858730842013-07-30T23:13:32.844-07:002013-07-30T23:13:32.844-07:00I uploaded Roseanna yesterday to my Kindle - only ...I uploaded Roseanna yesterday to my Kindle - only available for Kindle in english. I usually read them in german, but no problem. Am looking forward to that one, will start today. Mr. Swiss said that the film follows the book exactly to every detail, which is seldom the case. Probably because the authors originate from the film industry. He finds the film super. He ordered it all on DVD and is his summer film show in the evenings while I am sitting outside on the patio or reading on my iPad indoors. I have to grab half an hour before lights out at night, otherwise I suspect I wouldn't read either (and I'm not working!).nomadtravellerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17714845635955522112noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4164975954177814825.post-74122231433991885682013-07-30T15:33:15.551-07:002013-07-30T15:33:15.551-07:00Unfortunately (?), I saw the film before I saw the...Unfortunately (?), I saw the film before I saw the book, so although I much enjoyed The Killing, I don't think I'll be reading it (I have far too many still to read!). Roseanna is the first Beck book and the one Mankell claims led him to write the Wallander series.nomadtravellerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17714845635955522112noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4164975954177814825.post-72528626632372107842013-07-30T10:20:59.725-07:002013-07-30T10:20:59.725-07:00I used to be an avid reader when younger......I ne...I used to be an avid reader when younger......I never seen to find the time these days.MitchyLRhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11423634734890422795noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4164975954177814825.post-84323250073123784102013-07-30T10:20:32.266-07:002013-07-30T10:20:32.266-07:00Now that was one I did not know, so I asked Mr. Sw...Now that was one I did not know, so I asked Mr. Swiss. Of course, he knew them, he has never read them, but there is a series that was running on the TV which he watched He stays up later than me in the evening. He found them quite good and says they were the forerunner of the Mankels etc. that you mentioned. I might go for those if I can upload them on my Kindle. At the moment Mr. Swiss is watching The Killing, although he had already read the book by David Hewson and Soren Sveistrup(quite a long one) some time ago Pat Gerber-Relfhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00309477888996997341noreply@blogger.com
